WWF said studies suggest the new legislation could see 175 million acres of forest cleared or not restored following illegal deforestation

175 acres of forest in Brazil could be cleared but not restored, an area equivalent to Germany, Austria and Italy

The oil spill in an offshore field operated by Chevron at the Bacia de Campos, in Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil, is shown on Friday.
